HOW WE SUPPORT
OUR GOAL
Founded in 2017, our programme gives young women in Ghana a perspective and empowers them to lead a self-determined life, not one determined by tradition or their families. We give them a safe space where they can be themselves, learn how to swim and surf, do sports, study for school and have a community around them.
At the moment, we have about 10 girls in the programm and some boys. Due to a lack of amenities such as surf and swimming equipment as well as learning tools such as laptops, tablets, and anything to enhance their academic performance and skills; we cannot take on more girls at the moment.
We need you to achieve our vision.
We would like to extend this programme in Busua, as well as other nearby communities and villages to help young women who often fall prey to teenage pregnancies and its consequences. Please support us in giving those young women a perspective and the confidence to find their own way.
SURFING
Girls surfing is very rare in Ghana.
As well as the surf equipment.
THE OBIBINI GIRLS ARE ACTUALLY THE FIRST LOCAL FEMAL SURFERS IN GHANA!
We not only provide the girls with surf lessons but also give them the material they need, like surf wear.
WORKSHOPS
Togehter in groups the girls learn about their woman body, menstruation, contraception and reiceive products like menstrual cups.
PASSING ON SURF KNOWLEDGE
Nowadays, the girls can pass on what they have learned from the JB Team to other locals. They know the surf rules very well and can teach a beginner lesson. By the end of 2022 they have taught a friend how to surf and now you can hardly see the difference between them. We are working towards the goal of eventually having the girls employed at the surf school.
ACTIVITIES
We support the girls and introduce them to sports activities to make them physically and mentally fit.

COMMUNITY
The girls find a second family at the club and have space to see their friends, get mentoring and find connection while surfing, doing sports, their homework or simply hanging around.
